Everybody has a pair, and there’s a reason that they do. Hoop earrings are universally flattering (provided they fit the shape and size of the face). Dressed up or dressed down, they work with almost anything, so they are an absolutely essential piece of every jewelry collection, and you can always go to them when you need an easy and chic look.
The ultimate classics in this category are the shorter, thicker versions. They are the more sophisticated and chic type and are a great choice for women of any age. Always appropriate for work, small and thick are truly the classics and will never be out of style.
For a sexier look (though still generally appropriate for work), try a bigger hoop in a very thin width. A good rule of thumb is always to go thin when going big. For one thing, they will not be as heavy, which bothers some women tremendously (and frankly, with good reason), and for another, the sleek shape just looks so much chicer and very feminine.
Steer clear (very, very clear) of huge, thick hoops. These really don’t flatter anyone, look very uncomfortable, and are much harder to work seamlessly into your chic style than the two aforementioned versions. Those versions are NOT classics, so just don’t go there.
Gold and silver are your best bets for color, as they will, once again, go with just about everything. They don’t have to be real either; faux will get the job done just as well.
And one last thing that was briefly mentioned above: think about your face shape and size when buying a pair that you plan to wear over and over again as a flattering go-to staple. If you have a very small face, for example, you don’t need to go huge, even with a thin hoop, to achieve the same look as someone with a longer face. Keep them in proportion to your face; you will be so glad that you did later, when you pop them on day after day with everything from a suit to jeans.
What are your go-to hoops?
