Getting the Most Wear Out of Year-Round Work Skirts

Image of Building Your Complete WardrobeWork skirts may not be the most exciting items in your closet to shop for, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have some fun finding really flattering and professional pieces.  Yes, they are often basic shapes and neutral colors, but this make them a perfect canvas to show off a more daring colored top or bold accessories that show off your style.

Year-Round Work Skirts

My favorite choice for a year-round work skirt is a nice black & white tweed in a classic shape like a pencil skirt.  You can’t go wrong with this one.  Pair it with a light, silky top in the summer and spring, and try some knee-high boots in the winter.  My other choice for a year-round basic is a cotton or cotton-blend skirt in a pencil shape (yes, again) or an A-line.

It’s good to focus on basic colors for your year-round skirts and use tops, shoes or accessories to add a punch a color.  You will be able to get a lot more wear out of these in a basic color, and they will be a good base for a lot of different looks.  Good color choices for this skirt are black (always), gray or tan, and you can go with either a solid or a subtle stripe or pattern in any of these colors.

What shapes are your go-to styles for work skirts?
