The majority of your work tops will depend on the dress code at your workplace. If your office has a “business” dress code and you wear a lot of suits, you’ll want to focus on button-downs and camisoles that lay nicely under a suit jacket. If your atmosphere is more “business casual,” the range of styles for your work wardrobe is wider.
Everyday Work Shirts
In either case, it’s always a good idea to start with a couple classic button-downs, one in white and one or two others in colors of your choice (a light blue is another versatile option). You will get wear from this one no matter what your workplace is like (it even looks great with jeans!). If the classic button-down is too plain for you, look for one with interesting detail, like the one at right with a tie at the neck and feminine sleeves.
There are a few things to look for when buying a button-down to keep it from looking masculine. Choose a tapered style that will show off your curves, one with a little bit of stretch to keep a nice shape is best. Another thing to make sure of is that the shirt is not too long, making tucking a lot of fabric in a challenge. The other key to finding your best fit is ensuring that the buttons and front lie flat. This can certainly be a challenge as your bra size most certainly comes into play. But trust me, once you find a button-down that fits you well, it will be one of the most flattering pieces in your wardrobe so take the time to search one out and buy it in more than one color!
Another great option for a work shirt is a wrap top. This can be a short-sleeved top or a long-sleeved top. It can also be a true wrap top that you actually need to tie at the side or back or it can be a faux wrap top that crosses in the front and gives the illusion of a wrap. These tops are flattering on any body type as the wrap detail draws attention to the waist and shows off (or gives the illusion of) an hourglass shape.
