Christian Louboutin Declic Glitter Pumps

by Bridget on November 14, 2009

I know it’s only November, but whenever it’s getting toward the end of the year and I see really fabulous party shoes, I think of New Year’s Eve.  Everybody (well, ok, maybe just women) seems to want to wear something sparkly, whether it’s so great jewelry, a dress or skirt with paillettes, or… a pair of sky-high, hot pink glitter pumps.

Ok, that may not be the EXACT picture you have in your mind when you start thinking about your outfit for the big night, but seeing the Christian Louboutin Declic Glitter Pumps, you might start to think differently.

Image of Christian Louboutin Declic Glitter PumpsI love the idea of a fancy dress in black for New Year’s Eve, but I think the night requires some fun color.  These shoes are the perfect pop of color and sparkle for the occasion.  They are a beautiful grown-up shade of hot pink that’s classy and rich.

The sparkle factor isn’t too overdone either.  They definitely have a glitter look to them, but it’s very small glitter that again keeps this style firmly on the luxurious end of the spectrum.  And with the high quality of Louboutin, I think it’s pretty clear that you wouldn’t have to worry about leaving a trail of glitter in your wake.

With a super-high 5 1/2″ heel, these shoes will no doubt make your legs look fabulously long and lean.  And who doesn’t want that at a festive New Year’s Eve party?

Admittedly, $675 isn’t pocket change for shoes that you are planning to wear for one night, but that just means that you will have to think of other fabulous occasions to wear them, like a hot date.

Besides, in the world of sparkly stuff, I think I can get more wear out of these shoes than I would out of a sequined sleeveless boyfriend blazer… but maybe that’s just me.

Getting the Most Wear Out of Year-Round Work Skirts

by Bridget on November 12, 2009

Image of Building Your Complete WardrobeWork skirts may not be the most exciting items in your closet to shop for, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have some fun finding really flattering and professional pieces.  Yes, they are often basic shapes and neutral colors, but this make them a perfect canvas to show off a more daring colored top or bold accessories that show off your style.

Year-Round Work Skirts

My favorite choice for a year-round work skirt is a nice black & white tweed in a classic shape like a pencil skirt.  You can’t go wrong with this one.  Pair it with a light, silky top in the summer and spring, and try some knee-high boots in the winter.  My other choice for a year-round basic is a cotton or cotton-blend skirt in a pencil shape (yes, again) or an A-line.

Image of The Limited Tweed Pencil SkirtPersonally, I love pencil skirts because they are a universally flattering style, so you simply can’t go wrong there, and they are basic enough that you can truly wear them over and over with different tops and shoes without anyone noticing the repetition, so they are also fantastic for your budget.

It’s good to focus on basic colors for your year-round skirts and use tops, shoes or accessories to add a punch a color.  You will be able to get a lot more wear out of these in a basic color, and they will be a good base for a lot of different looks.  Good color choices for this skirt are black (always), gray or tan, and you can go with either a solid or a subtle stripe or pattern in any of these colors.

What shapes are your go-to styles for work skirts?
